Let's chat November:
Justin and I started off the month by zipping down to Jerome to watch the high school girls volleyball team at state. We knew they'd probably win the whole thing and boy did they ever! They wiped the floor with those other teams. It was so fun to watch them completely dominate. I taught all of those girls when they were in middle school and just love their guts so much!
Our November co-op activities this month included Falconry with the Smoots, fossil hunting, and Thanksgiving crafts.
We celebrated Justin's 36th birthday on the 5th. It was also election day, and being a house divided as far as politics this year we focused on celebrating him instead. I special ordered a chocolate peanut butter cake from an old high school friend and as a not-peanut butter person myself, I must say this cake was absolutely amazing!
In homeschool the new month brought a new unit study. We did Columbus which had a lot of fun projects, but after learning everything my kids have determined Christopher Columbus was a pretty bad dude. We are trying to teach all sides of history in this house!
Justin threw a Turkey Trot with his buddy Blake Pence heading everything up. I ran my first 5k in several years. I think the last one I ran was in 2020? Maybe 2019? Anyway - my goal was to do it under 30 minutes and my time was 29:56. A win is a win! The two boys also ran in the 1 mile kid trot and won some prizes.
James and Bonnie zipped over to us during the visit to Idaho for her family early Thanksgiving, so we enjoyed having them for 24 hours. They came when we did fossils for co-cop so that is fun their kids got to do something actually fun with us while they were here!
I zipped over to Boise for Mitzi's baby shower for her surrogate baby due in January. It was fun to have some sister time with her and I was glad everything worked out that I could be there to support her.
At Thanksgiving we had our family plus Trisha's for the holiday. We played Among Us at the church with Justin's clever in-person rendition of the game, and we also did our annual scavenger hunt with person-specific clues to get different people involved. Trisha had a clue in German, Travis had a clue to do with the science faculty at Madison HS, Brie had a clue specific to one of her books, etc. Justin and I had a lot of fun baking pies together all day on Wednesday. I did my usual lemon cream and then tried to make a Butterbeer pie. It didn't taste good but it was as good as you could imagine getting a Butterbeer pie to taste - complete with a pop rocks surprise in the middle.
The day after Thanksgiving I started potty training Colby. Of all the kids I think he's been the easiest to train. Within the first week he actually started taking himself to go pee which I don't think Beckham did until he'd been trained for like, a year. It's been so nice to get that over with!
